Charlotte Symes and Mariko Wilson To Be Appointed Directors at FLiP

Family Law in Partnership (“FLiP”) today announced that Charlotte Symes and Mariko Wilson will be appointed as directors of FLiP with effect from 1 April 2021. Charlotte and Mariko are both highly experienced family law specialists who were previously Senior Associates at FLiP.

We are delighted that Charlotte and Mariko are to become directors of FLiP,” said director David Allison. “They are key members of the FLiP team and have developed significant expertise in their respective fields. Their promotion to directors is an exciting step as we build FLiP for the future.

Charlotte deals with complex financial issues arising from divorce and separation including those relating to businesses, investments, tax and pensions. Her work has a strong international dimension, with a particular focus on French matters as she is a fluent French speaker. She is a trained mediator and collaborative practitioner, drawing on these skills to deliver a variety of process options for her clients.

Charlotte is recommended in both The Legal 500 UK 2021 and 2020 for her family law expertise, with the 2020 edition noting: “Charlotte Symes is a rising star associate with mastery of the detail of her cases.” Charlotte is also named as a Rising Star in The Spear’s 500 Index of leading family lawyers in both 2019 and 2020, with Spear’s recognising her “diverse and international” practice.

Charlotte commented: “I am very much looking forward to joining the team of directors at FLiP. Their client-centred, constructive and intelligent approach to finding solutions for families, combining both court and non-court methods, entirely mirrors my approach to family law.”

Mariko handles all aspects of private family law and has a broad range of experience, frequently acting for high-net-worth individuals in financial relief and divorce proceedings as well as acting in children matters. She has a particular expertise in cases involving complex pensions and tax issues, and in cases in which trusts, businesses and other complex asset structures are a significant feature. She has recently been appointed to the Pensions Tax and Financial Remedies Committee of Resolution.

Mariko has been named as a Rising Star in The Spear’s 500 Index of leading family lawyers for the last few years (most recently in 2021) where she is described as “personable and impressive”. She is also named as a Rising Star family lawyer in The Legal 500 UK 2021 and 2020 editions: “Mariko Wilson is exceptionally able. She is bright, organised, and forthright but charming”. The Legal 500 UK 2021 observes: “Mariko Wilson is hugely impressive – a powerhouse of industry, enthusiasm and good humour, and a very shrewd litigator to boot”. Chambers UK 2021 ranks Mariko as an Associate to Watch with Chambers noting: “She is just great. She is calm, clever and manages her clients so well.”

Mariko commented: “I am excited to become a director at FLiP. The firm boasts some of the best family lawyers in London and has a reputation not only for legal excellence but also for a forward-thinking approach to family dispute resolution. I am looking forward to working as a director as part of this highly regarded and progressive firm.

The promotion of Charlotte and Mariko to directors follows the appointment in October 2020 of Elizabeth Hicks as a FLiP director and the arrival of two associates, Alexie Bonavia and Rebecca Alexander, to the FLiP team.
