Meet  – Rory Collett

Meet Rory Collett, Associate here at FLiP.

Rory is an associate at Family Law in Partnership. Rory’s practice involves advising clients on all aspects of private family law including financial and children matters and pre and post nuptial agreements. Having qualified at a City law firm as a commercial litigator, Rory has invaluable experience of corporate structures and business arrangements across numerous sectors enabling him to provide a breadth of experience to his family law clients.

  1. So, Rory, how long have you been at FLiP?

I have been at FLiP for nearly 18-months.

  1. What does your role entail at FLiP?

I advise on all aspects of family law, including divorce and financial settlement. I assist across every stage of divorce or separation and tailor my approach to utilise negotiation, alternative dispute resolution or the court process. My cases often involve complex business assets and high value matrimonial finance issues. I work closely with Directors or other members of the FLiP team, to deliver strategic advice to resolve cases positively and expediently.

  1. What is the best thing about your job?

It’s important to me that I make separation and divorce better for everyone involved. I enjoy trying to resolve issues and problem solve and I love the challenge of succeeding and doing better than expected for my clients. Most importantly, it’s satisfying when we leave clients in the best position possible to start the next chapter of their lives.

  1. Are you a tea or a coffee drinker?

I prefer a flat white, but also happy with a strong cup of tea.

  1. What is the hardest thing about your job?

Interacting with solicitors on the other side if they choose to pursue an unnecessarily aggressive approach. Although the court’s involvement can be invaluable in resolving a stalemate and can help restart negotiation, litigation should always be the last resort.

  1. When you are enjoying some well-deserved leave, describe your perfect day?

My perfect annual leave day is watching live sport of some kind, preferably with a little bit of sunshine, and a drink balancing close to hand.
