Parenting After Parting

Helping your children through family breakdown Our Parenting After Parting course enables you to focus on the needs of your children

There are crucial things we should do (and should avoid doing) if we are to get our children through family breakdown in good shape. Issues such as housing, finance, maintenance and so on become so much easier to resolve when there is an early focus on the needs of the children. However, with so many things going on it is hardly surprising that too often the needs of the children are managed less well than they could be.

As part of our Family Support Services, we run a Parenting After Parting course to help you to focus on the needs of your children. The course covers issues such as what to say to children about separation and divorce, how children can be affected when parents split up, how to help children to manage grief and loss constructively and how to establish a parenting relationship with your ex-partner. The course takes place over 3 successive Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm at our offices in Central London.

The course is run in groups of around ten parents by one of our experienced therapists together with a parenting specialist from The Parent Practice. Discussions are entirely confidential. Those attending can be as involved in the session as they like. Some prefer to sit in the background whilst others relish the opportunity of hearing from those in similar situations – and more particularly, from those in the mirror situation.

A Family Court judge commented about the course:

“Every parent should be required to attend one of these”

Thought needs to be given as to whether to attend the course with the children’s other parent – most parents choose to attend separately but this needn’t always be the case. This can be discussed by making contact with our mediation coordinator, Wendy Hoare who can put you in touch with our presenters.

There is a charge of £180 (including VAT) to attend the Parenting After Parting course. Further information and a link to the booking form can be found here. Alternatively, please contact Wendy Hoare of Family Law in Partnership for further information including course dates and availability.

Feedback from the course includes:

“It reinforced my belief that the child comes first”

“It was good to know that I am not the only one going through this, that I am not alone”

“It strengthened my understanding of the situation”

“I’ve made a conscious effort to improve communication with my estranged wife”

“To be in a room with other parents who are in the same situation was good for us – we felt less alone”
