Parenting After Parting

Help your children through family breakdown Our Parenting After Parting workshops enable you to focus on the needs of your children

There are crucial things we should do (and should avoid doing) if we are to get our children through family breakdown in good shape. Other issues such as housing, finance, maintenance and so on become so much easier to resolve when there is an early focus on the needs of children. However, with so many things going on it is hardly surprising that too often the needs of children are managed less well than they could be.

We run Parenting After Parting workshops at our offices in Covent Garden to help you focus on the needs of your children. The workshops cover issues such as what to say to children about separation and divorce, how children can be affected when parents split up, how to help children to manage grief and loss constructively and how to establish a parenting relationship with your ex-partner.

The workshops are run in groups of around half a dozen parents by our experienced therapists, trained in providing information in a helpful and accessible way. Those attending can be as involved in the session as they like. Some prefer to sit in the background whilst others relish the opportunity of hearing from those in similar situations – and more particularly, from those in the mirror situation.

A Family Court judge commented about the workshops:

“Every parent should be required to attend one of these”

Thought needs to be given as to whether or not to attend the workshops with the children’s other parent – there are benefits of each approach. This can be discussed by making contact with our mediation coordinator, Wendy Hoare who can put you in touch with our presenters.

The Parenting After Parting workshops are free of charge for clients of Family Law in Partnership – for others there is a charge of £96 (including VAT). Please contact Wendy Hoare to book a place on our forthcoming workshops.

Feedback from the workshops:

“It reinforced my belief that the child comes first”

“It was good to know that I am not the only one going through this, that I am not alone”

“It strengthened my understanding of the situation”

“I’ve made a conscious effort to improve communication with my estranged wife”

“To be in a room with other parents who are in the same situation was good for us – we felt less alone”

We also run Parenting After Parting workshops on an individual, one to one, basis if you prefer that format to the group based workshop. If you would like to hear more about the one to one workshop sessions, including availability and pricing, please contact our mediation coordinator, Wendy Hoare.
